Gem & Mineral Society of Greater Stamford – Greenwich Library – Rare Earth Metals

The Gem and Mineral Society of Greater Stamford will hold its monthly meeting on April 8th at 7pm at the Greenwich Library at 101 West Putnam Avenue, Greenwich, CT.
Howard Heitner has a new program concerning Rare Earths and their Role in the 21st Century. He will present the program on Tuesday, April 8th at 7pm. There are 15 to 17 rare earths depending on how they are defined. They include the lanthanides along with scandium and yttrium. They are not all that rare, but are difficult to separate from each other. When purified they are lustrous silvery-white soft metals.
