Searching for Spring flowers and early shrubs and trees. Bring a lunch and water bottle.
We will start with a walk on the abandoned Mt Pisgah dirt road. (Do not drive to Mt Pisgah
dirt road as the parking is very limited.)
In the afternoon, we have the option for those that have the time and are interested in
utilizing the YMCA Camp Jewel, which 40 years ago had an outstanding variety of spring
ephemerals on an east-facing slope.
Directions and Parking: From the South/Southwest take I84 to Rt 8; follow 8 north to
Winsted. Take the Winsted/Rt 44 exit and continue on Rt 8 passing across Rt 44. Just as
you get into Winsted, on your right is NW University–take the right to stay on Rt 8. Follow Rt
8 for a few miles to Smith Hill Road on your left. Continue into Colebrook center, passing
the post office and town hall. Your next right is School House Rd–follow into the back of
town hall parking lot. We will carpool from the back of town hall.
From the East, take Rt 44 to Rt 8 in Colebrook; stay right and follow the above directions.
From other directions, continue on Rt 44 to Rt 183 to Colebrook Center.
